Kim Fagerlund, (D.Sc., Material Science and Metallurgy) has been appointed as CEO of Filtrabit, starting 10th of April 2024. He joins from Metso, where he held several senior leadership positions — most recently Vice President of Technology in Metals and Minerals.

Kim Fagerlund, CEO of Filtrabit:

“I started my career at the R&D center of Outokumpu in the year 2000, focusing on development. Over time, I led my own team, transitioned to technical support at customer sites, managed sales, and eventually took charge of the smelting business line.

Later, I had the privilege of overseeing global sales and marketing for a diverse and extensive portfolio. Eventually, I found myself leading technology, intellectual property rights (IPR), and product lifecycle management within large business areas.

This journey exposed me to different organizational structures and companies, including Outokumpu Research, Outokumpu Technology, Outotec, Metso-Outotec, and finally Metso. I also had the unique experience of living in Australia twice.

After more than two decades of working in various roles across large organizations, this is a radical move to embark on a new chapter. In my 25 years in the industry, I’ve seen technologies and business areas evolve rapidly, and yet some barely moved at all. Dust formation and accumulation are huge issues in almost all manufacturing sectors but the progress over the recent decades has been minimal. That’s what got me so excited when I came across Filtrabit and their unique technological solution to industrial dust.

I immediately thought that this is a real innovation and simply a better way to do things. It didn’t take long to make the decision to join when the opportunity presented itself.

The scale of this problem is immense, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Not only is this a critical piece in solving CO2 emissions, but the impacts of harmful PM2.5 and other microparticles on human health are unbelievable. Literally cutting years off global human life expectancy.”

Karri Kaitue, Chairman of the Board at Filtrabit:

“Kim is an experienced leader in global industrial technology business, who brings a lot of specialized market expertise in metals and mining technology to Filtrabit.

Thanks to the strong CEO appointment, we feel that the company is now fully resourced for global commercialization and rapid growth. Our confidence is reflected with recent financing decisions in the form of loans of EUR 4 million from the Climate Fund and EUR 5 million from a financial institution to be announced soon.

Filtrabit is dedicated to advancing sustainable industrial operations, one installation at a time. Kim’s proven leadership with outstanding customer interface management will give a solid platform for us to pursue our ambitions further.

The board welcomes Kim to the team and is excited to see the next phase of the company.”

Filtrabit is Finnish manufacturer of industrial-scale dust extraction systems. Filtrabit’s solution effectively extracts industrial dust-containing gas streams, which helps reduce air pollutants from industrial sources and accelerate emissions reductions through the reuse of recovered raw materials.
